I've recently joined a "Nerd Out" meetup group and for my first event I went to a picnic to see E.T. I wanted to do something to show off my geek cred but couldn't think anything ET related so I settled on a Doctor Who theme.
Initially I was going to have a dalek on one hand and a TARDIS on the other but the TARDIS nail didn't turn out so well so I turned it into a second dalek.
For the starscape nails I started with a shimmery black and then covered with two coats of sparkly glitter. They're pretty stunning in the sunlight.
Two days later all of my dalek "eggs" have stayed on apart from one which I bumped while it was still drying. I replaced that one and they've been steady since.

Nail Art - when things go wrong.
I read about doing gradients using sponges so I decided to give it a go! I bought some sponges and pulled out my brightest pinkest polishes. I ended up with a sponge full of polish, some bottles of nailpolish which where much emptier than when I started and some fingernails covered in little flecks of sponge. So... yeah. Took it all off and started again and just did some pink stripes.
For this next design my idea was to just do some thin vertical stripes on a neutral base colour. Some of them kind of smudged a bit and started to come off when I did the second stripes... so I just went with it and embraced the dirtiness. It turned out really well even if it wasn't what I initially started out doing.Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Nautical Flag Nails
For Christmas a wonderful friend sent me a pile of nail polish!
So the sensible thing to do was to go and buy three more polishes so that I could do this design - Nautical Flags.
The flags spell my name - I realised too late that I should have used a special flag for the second E as they only have one of each flag.
This was one of my first adventures in Nail Art so some of the lines aren't as clean as they could be. I'm still ridiculously proud of it though.
Done with a combination of sticky tape masks and sticky tape stickers.
